Commerce Service Provider A commerce service provider (or CSP) is the institution or company that provides e-commerce solutions to clients. A CSP leases out the capabilities of their servers, software, security systems, and transaction processing systems to merchants who wish to establish an online store or to offer other payment based services. Many CSPs offer "store building" solutions that allow merchants with no web authoring skills to easily place their products online and to accept real time payments. CSPs enable online merchants to collect authenticated credit card payments via a transaction infrastructure. Their software or "shopping cart" tracks the details of the order placed, collects the payment information, and generates the necessary receipt (usually by email). These are the major steps that constitute the complete transaction cycle. In addition, the CSP's software provides an accurate means of record keeping to the merchant for purposes of shipping, inventory control, and taxation. As such, a CSP supplies the necessary infrastructure for online commerce. More Credit-Card Terms Explained |
