Corporate Card Essentially commercial cards and corporate cards are the same thing. Both terms refer to cards issued to corporations and government entities with specific usage requirements in mind. These cards might be targeted to track travel expenses, departmental purchasing activities, or the expenses associated with maintaining a fleet of vehicles. The major difference in corporate cards and their consumer counterparts are the degree of information returned on the card statements and the degree of control the card holder has to define how the card will be used. The statement data returned by a corporate card is described as Level III and may include such things as item description, item quantity, item unit of measure, item total, item commodity code, item product code, item unit cost, and item VAT tax amount/rate. (On a fleet specific card information tracked could also include fuel type and quantity.) Because these cards play a crucial role in record keeping and job performance analysis, their use is often restricted to a set number of suppliers with spending limits set accordingly.
