E-Procurement Overall, the term "e-procurement" refers to technological methods that make possible electronic purchasing. Many businesses have adopted this method of handling purchasing to get away from the cost of generating a paper catalog and to better serve their customers. E-procurement services are faster than former ordering strategies and the systems can "remember" what customers have ordered in the past, thus greatly facilitating the process of reordering. Automated systems also enhance the record keeping and inventory management abilities of the supplier in the equation. As an aspect of evolving business-to-business (B2B) technology, e-procurement refers to methods for automating the acquisition or purchase process between businesses. This automation can be achieved over the Internet, via electronic data interchange (EDI), or through Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Using any one of these network architectures, requisition documents, purchase approval authorizations, resource location functions, p urchase order generation, and all stages of document delivery become part of an automated procurement system.
